The Indians recorded their second loss of the season against a strong Garces freshmen team, falling to the Rams 36-6 Thursday afternoon.

Isaiah Gilenfeldt scored a touchdown in the contest for the Indians (0-2), while Max Meza and Jacob Tye split duties at quarterback for the second straight week. Other offensive highlights included Kaidyn Renfrow and Carter Borne with receptions and Caleb Fassbender providing strong runs in the ground game.

“Our guys are starting to step up and come together as a team,” said head coach Mike Ledesma. “We have a lot of first-year players mixed in with players that have experience from previous seasons in TYF (Tehachapi Youth Football). Everyone gets along and that is important. As the season goes we will get better.”

Ethan Estrella had a strong afternoon on defense with multiple tackles, while Renfrow and Jake Flynn recorded interceptions.

The previous week, the Indians were dealt a 19-7 loss against Burroughs-Ridgecrest. Gilenfeldt had the lone touchdown in that game, followed by a Max Meza extra point. Meza and Tyler O’Brien had interceptions on defense.

“The scores do not reflect how hard our kids are working out (on the field). As long as we continue to build on our successes and learn from our mistakes we should be ok, especially by the time league comes around,” added Ledesma.

Since Bakersfield Christian does not have a freshman team, the Indians will travel to Kennedy-Delano next Thursdayafternoon for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
