The Tehachapi Braves junior varsity team captured third place at the South High Rebel Shootout basketball tournament on Wednesday, Dec. 28, with a 27-21 victory over Golden Valley.

The victory, sparked by Chris Garcia's 9 points, gave the Braves a 4-1 record in the tournament, 6-4 for the season. Their next game was scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Rosamond.

Jon Montgomery and Adam Lamonaco had 5 points apiece against Golden Valley.

The Braves started the tournament by splitting a pair of games on Monday, Dec. 26.

First, they beat Delano 44-22 as Montgomery had 18 points and Jarod Carol 12. Bakersfield then handed Tehachapi its only loss of the tournament, 40-18. J.J. Johnson was the Braves lead scorer with 6 points, and Jesse Gody and Lamonaco had 3 apiece.

Then, on Tuesday, Dec. 27, the Braves won a pair, beating East Bakersfield 36-32 in overtime and Rosamond 41-20.

Garcia had 14 points against East, and Carol and Johnson had 7 apiece against Rosamond.
