Tehachapi Valley Wrestling Club wrestlers competed at three different meets over the holidays, trying to keep busy and stay sharp.

"We just wanted to get the kids some tough competition," coach Jerry Tye said.

Competing at the Cal Republic Duels on Dec. 17 in Corcoran were Jake Tye and Elijah Graves on a Rainbow team made up of other middle school division wrestlers from the Central Valley.

Both wrestlers faced some tough competition in the six duels and finished 3-3 for the day.

TVWC had three wrestlers competing at the USA National Event Royal Crush Dec. 17-18 in Las Vegas.

Michael Murillo, in the novice 100 pound division, and Kayden Gonzales, at 60 bantam, both finished sixth.

Bill Takara, who now lives in Temecula but still competes for TVWC, was second in the middle school division at 105 pounds, losing 1-0 iin the finals.

"The Royal Crush is a very competitive tournament," coach Curtis Nelson said. "I think Michael and Kayden could have placed third. They just made some mistakes.

“Bill had a tough finals match and couldn’t score when needed," Nelson said.

TVWC also attended the Battle of Los Angles in Norwalk on Dec. 18.

Jairdan Medina was second at middle school 75, and Jacob Cardenas, 50 bantam, was third. Also representing TVWC but not placing was Julian Cardenas.

"We like coming to this tournament to see different wrestlers,” coach Gabe Medina said.

Wrestler of the Week awards went to Jacob Cardenas K-1, Michael Murillo 2-5 and Jairdan Medina in the middle school division.
