The Tehachapi Valley Wrestling Club took 21 wrestlers to the fifth annual Tulare Titan Invitational Tournament on Sunday, Dec. 11, and finished second behind the host club.
The Tehachapi team was comprised of wrestlers in the K-1, 2-3, 4-5 and middle school grade classes.
"We were surprised when we were announced as second place,” coach Curtis Nelson said. "There was a lot of tough teams competing, and we only had one champion.
"It really shows how important it is to have kids place as high as they can to earn team points."
The lone champion was middle schooler Jairden Medina in the 76-pound class. Other wrestlers in the middle school class included Jake Tye, 126 pounds, second, and Wyatt Ritchie, 85 pounds, fourth. Placing fifth overall were Elijah Graves, 107 pounds; Denver Kipp, 126 pounds, and Isaiah Geilenfeldt 120 pounds.
In the K-1 division, all five wrestlers placed: Jacob Cardenas second at 69 pounds; Ivan Madueno,75 pounds, third place; Kyden Pena, 69 pounds, fourth; Dalton Vaughn, 55 pounds, fourth place, and Michael Ramirez finished fifth at 50 pounds.
In the 2-3 grade division, third-place finishes went to Roland Pena, 67 pounds, and Jacob Meza, 73 pounds. Others competing but not placing were Cade Peterson, Kayden Gonzales and Julianna Ramirez.
Wrestlers placing in the 4-5 grade competition were Michael Murillio,110 pounds, second place; Levi Hart, 79 pounds, fifth place; Julian Cardenas, 88 pounds, fourth place, and, at 70 pounds, teammates Kaiden Roberts, third, and Adrian Pena, fourth.
This week’s Wrestlers of the Week were K-1, Jacob Cardenas; 2-5, Jacob Meza, and middle school, Wyatt Ritchie.
On Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 17-18, TVWC was scheduled to have wrestlers competing at Corcoran Duels, Battle of L.A. and national tournament Royal Crush in Las Vegas.
