Three Tehachapi High School softball standouts were recently named to The Bakersfield Californian's 2017 B-Varsity All-Area Softball Team.

Senior pitcher Una Abarquez and sophomore outfielder Ashley McIrvin were granted Second Team All-Area honors.

McIrvin helped lead the Lady Warriors to a share of the South Yosemite League title with her outstanding hitting and spectacular defensive play, being a Top-5 performer in the Central Section Division III in home runs, slugging percentage, and total runs.

Abarquez had a standout year in the circle, leading the Warriors with Top-5 D-III performances in earned run average, strikeouts and total wins.

Junior first-baseman Erin Askins was additionally honored with First Team All-Area status for her incredible all-around offensive performance. Askins led the entire Central Section Division III in batting average (.577), home runs (8), and slugging percentage (1.205), while also being a Top-5 performer in runs batted in, total runs, and on-base percentage.

Askins was additionally honored as the 2017 South Yosemite League's Most Valuable Player, and all three players were part of the SYL All-League team.

Askins and McIrvin will be returning to a powerhouse THS team next season, looking to defend their league co-championship. Congratulations to our All-Area selections and to the entire Tehachapi High School softball team for a truly outstanding season!
