Tehachapi Valley Wrestling Club competed at Arvin on May 13 in the Grizzlies Freestyle Tournament.

Kayden Gonzales continued to dominate his opponents with 5 pins in less the 2 minutes in the Bantam 60-pound Division to earn the Gold Medal. Rookie 45-pound wrestler Jordan Cardenas had a close final match, losing in the final seconds 8-6 to place second.

Intermediate wrestlers Stephan Meek, 60 pounds, and Cade Peterson, 65 pounds, both placed second. In the Novice Division TVWC had Jairdan Medina, 75 pounds, and Levi Hart, 80 pounds, also finish with silver medals.

Schoolboy Elijah Graves moved up to the 112-weight class and wrestled some tough opponents to finish with his silver medal.

“We had a lot of our top wrestlers come up short and they could have easily had gold medals instead,” Coach Curtis Nelson said.

Bantam Gabriel Cordova placed third at 45 pounds; Dalton Vaughan, Bantam 55, finished fifth; and Intermediate Caelan Sampson wrestled in his first tournament and finished fifth at 65 pounds. Novice Cayden Castrellon finished fourth at 85 pounds.
