Tehachapi Valley Wrestling Club had a busy start of 2018 with two tournaments. Three wrestlers traveled to Corcoran on Jan. 6 for the John Muir Invitational. Jairdan Medina placed 2nd at 83 pounds in the Middle School Division. Medina lost a close 6-5 finals match. Michael Murillo went 1-2 at 120 pounds in the M.S. Division and Kayden Gonzales went 0-2 at 67 pounds of the 3-5 grade division.

On Jan. 7, TVWC had 15 kids competing at the Wasco Invite. In the K-2 Division, Jordan Cardenas was crowned the Champion on his sixth birthday. Gabriel Mesa battled for a 5th place finish in the 52-pound class. Owan Schneider ended the day with 4th place and Jacob Cardenas lost a close finals match for 2nd place.

The 3-5th grade division had Bill Fuller wrestling two weight divisions. In the 71-pound class, he placed 4th and in the 76-pound class, he received the silver medal. Jake Hatfield placed 4th in the 76-pound class. Kayden Gonzales, 71 pounds, and Jacob Mesa, 76 pounds, both wrestled tough matches to earn their 3rd place medals. Caelan Simpson placed 5th at 71 pounds.

Levi Hart was TVWC's other Champion in the 83-pound Middle School Division and placed 3rd at 89 pounds. Jairdan Medina finished with a silver medal at 83 pounds. Cayden Castrellon earned a 5th at 89 and 6th at 95 pounds. Wyatt Ritchie wrestled back through his 95-pound bracket for a third-place medal. Luke Tapola at 95 placed 5th and Aiden Loehr 138 pounds placed 3rd.

“It was great having two champions, but I am really impressed with Wyatt Ritchie’s technique skills. He has developed very well this year,” Coach Curtis Nelson said.
