The Tehachapi junior varsity Braves faded in the final 2½ minutes and lost to Garces 54-45 on Thursday, Jan. 5.

The loss gave the Braves a split of their two games last week after winning at Rosamond, 66-42, on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

With 2:36 to play, the JV boys trailed Garces just 46-42 but were outscored 6-3 the rest of the way. Tehachapi's only basket in the final 2:30 was Chris Garcia's 3-pointer with 42.8 seconds left.

Jon Montgomery had 12 points and Adam Lamonaco 10 in the victory over Rosamond. Jesse Gody added 9, and JJ Johnson and Alec Robottom had 8 apiece for the Braves.

The Braves went 4-1 and won third place in the South High Rebel Shootout Dec. 26-28. They beat Golden Valley in the third-place game, getting 9 points from Garcia.
