The Tehachapi High School competition cheer team has its eye on the prize — again.

The Warrior girls won the Sharp International State Championship on Saturday, March 11, and now look forward to defending their title at the USA Spirit National Championships at Anaheim on Friday, March 24.

“I was so excited when I heard our name get announced for first place,” senior cheer captain Chelsey Davis said. “We have all worked so hard for this.”

The team of 12 Warriors girls, coached by Robin Harris and Vikki Worrell, competed against seven other teams to win first in the Varsity Medium Elite Division at Knotts Berry Farm.

"I'm so proud of our team,” senior cheerleader Kristen Luper said. “We had a lot of challenges and changes, but with hard work and dedication we were able to overcome them and deliver a good clean routine.”

The Wariors won the Spirit Nationals, their traditional season-ending meet, last year at Disneyland, competing against more than 300 cheerleaders from schools in California, Utah, Arizona and Nevada.

“I couldn't be more proud of how hard the team worked to get where we are,” senior Gina Angelone said. “I wouldn't want to stand on stage with any other girls."
