Tehachapi High cross-country traveled to Cerro Coso Community College to face off with Burroughs High School of Ridgecrest in a early preseason dual meet.

With 102-degree weather, the Warriors ran in three divisions, boys JV, girls varsity and boys varsity. The Warriors came out on the short end in all three runs, but still-early season results have reason to be optimistic for the upcoming season.

For the boys varsity, THS was downed 15-44. Still, sophomore Mitchell Poulson (21:28) is starting to show last year's form, finishing sixth on the 3.1-mile course. Senior Brandon Janney (21:54) battled severe cramps and still finished seventh overall. He was followed by senior Nathan Wight (22:14) in eighth place.

In the girls varsity run, junior Jo Trillo (24:40) continues her early season success finishing third overall. Freshman Ella Moomey (25:30), running in her first varsity race, was fourth overall. Junior transfer from Frontier High School Alexis Perry (31:03) was seventh overall, and junior Brooke Sheen (31:23) finished eighth overall as the girls lost a close 23-32 match.

For the JV boys run, they also ran the tough 3.1-mile course instead of a 2-mile run. The Braves were beaten 20-56. But the highlight of the run was freshman Travis Lee Sturckgow (21:24), who not only won the JV race, but also posted Tehachapi Highs' fastest time on the course for the day.

Warrior cross-country will compete in the Falcon Invite on Saturday, Sept. 9 and then follow up on Saturday, Sept. 16 in the Wolfpack Invite at Hart Park in Bakersfield.
