Some of the Tehachapi Valley Wrestling Club wrestlers got an early jump on the season at the Kern County Wrestling Association's Zombie Takedown Tournament held Oct. 29 in Bakersfield.

“This was a great tournament for our kids to get some mat time and get a cool Zombie Medal,” said head coach Curtis Nelson.

Earning first place were Michael Ramirez in the K-1 grade 40-pound Division and Cade Peterson in the 2-3 Grade 65-pound Division. Second- and third-graders Owen Schnieder, 50-pound, and Kayden Gonzales, 65-pound, earned second with teammate John Archuleta in the 4-5 grade 85-pound Division.

Third-place finishers were K-1 grader Jordan Cardenas, 50 pounds, and Julianna Ramirez, 2-3 grade 55-pound Division.

The season officially starts Nov. 7 and there are still openings in all three age groups: middle school, 2-5 grade and K-1. For more information, contact Curtis Nelson at 661-557-1366.
