Swimmers represent at Junior Olympics

Four Tehachapi swimmers representing the Bakersfield Aquatic Club recently competed in the Junior Olympic Short Course held in Bakersfield last month in a variety of swimming events.

Adrian Pacheco, competing in the 11-12 year old division, swam in the 50 backstroke, 500 freestyle, 200 medley relay, 50 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 100 individual medley, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and the 400 free relay.

Sean Banks, competing in the 13-14 year old division, participated in the 800 freestyle relay, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay, 100 butterfly, 200 backstroke, 400 individual medley, 200 backstroke, 400 medley relay, 200 individual medley, 200 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.

Tehachapi had two swimmers qualify for the Olympics in the 15-18 year old division. Lexi Zimmerman competed in the 800 freestyle relay, 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, 200 individual medley, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay. Daniel Banks qualified in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle, but could not compete due to illness.

In the March 5 edition of the Tehachapi News, it was incorrectly reported that all four swimmers attend Tehachapi High School. While Lexi Zimmerman is a senior at THS, Adrian Pacheco is a sixth grader at Jacobsen Middle School, Sean Banks is an eighth grader at Carden School and Daniel Banks is a sophomore at Valley Oaks High School.
 
Mountain Tennis nearly pulls out win

Faced with a 4-2 deficit heading into doubles, the Warriors nearly pulled off a big comeback against Bakersfield High last Wednesday, falling in a close 5-4 match.

Jonathan Supple (2-6, 6-3, 10-4) and Justin Ostrem (6-2, 6-4) had wins in doubles for Tehachapi in third and fourth singles, while Branden Dunn nearly had a victory in fifth singles in a 6-0, 1-6, 13-11 defeat.

In doubles, Ryan Bilotta and Wyatt Newman won in second doubles 6-3, 6-4 and Sam Gillam and Justin Ostrem won in third doubles 6-3, 6-2. The deciding match point came in first doubles, where Keegan Zehr and  Supple lost a close 6-0, 5-7, 10-6 decision.

Later in the week, Mountain Tennis participated in the Lynch Cup, finishing the first day of competition with victories over East Bakersfield 4-2 and losing to Centennial 4-2. Full results of the Lynch Cup will be available next week.
 
Volleyball Open Gym

Open gym for the upcoming 2013 fall season will be held again Monday, April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the THS gym. All current JMS eighth graders and THS freshmen, sophomores and juniors are invited to attend.

Boys Golf – Varsity at SEYL mini-tournament at Riverlakes Ranch-Bakersfield on Tuesday, March 19. Tee off is at 12 p.m.
