The Lady Warriors built a commanding 8-0 lead after four innings to cruise in the league opener, 9-1 over Highland.
Taylor Cummings led the way on offense with a 3-4 plate performance, scoring three runs and recording two doubles and two RBIs. Kendall Kapitzke also went 2-3 with two RBIs and a homerun.
Other highlights included Brenna Dezubiria going 2-3 with an RBI, Mariah Godde going 2-4 with two runs scored, and Michaela Peters, Kathryn Freidt and Dionna Henry all recording hits, with Henry's hit a double.
Emily Mejia led the team in putouts with seven on the afternoon and Godde picked up the win in the pitching circle, striking out four batters in six innings of work.
Grimes also pitched an inning in the game, combining with Godde to give up only three hits in seven innings.
Tehachapi (10-9-1; 1-0 SEYL) also had a pair of makeup games from the Leadoff Classic earlier this season, defeating North 14-0 and losing to Garces, 8-0.
The Lady Warriors had 15 hits overall in the game and gave up only three hits to North. Kapitzke led the offense with a 3-4 plate performance, scoring three runs, three RBIs and a homerun.
Other leaders included Grimes logging two hits, a double and five RBIs, Danay Lee going 3-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs and Godde with a triple and three runs scored. Godde was also the winning pitcher, striking out five batters in four innings.
Peters and Cummings both had doubles in the loss against Garces.
The first league contest against East last Tuesday was rained out and rescheduled to this past Monday, April 7. Game highlights against East will be covered in next week's Tehachapi News.
Mountain Softball will be in action again this Wednesday in an away game against North and again on Friday in a home contest against Foothill. Both contests are slated to start at 4 p.m.
Junior Varsity and Freshmen
The Lady Braves defeated Highland last week in a high scoring contest, 16-11.
Tehachapi scored six runs in the third inning and seven runs in the fifth inning to pull away from the Lady Scots. Shelby Ricker hit two doubles and scored three runs, Vanessa Swan had a triple and Kayleigh Brailey had a triple and scored two runs in the victory.
In their inaugural league game, the Lady Indians won 18-13 over Highland.
It is the first season that Tehachapi has fielded a frosh-soph team. SEYL play got off on the right start with Madison Burgeis hitting a double and scoring two runs to lead Tehachapi. Other highlights included Cassidy Reeves hitting a double and scoring a run and Rebecca Kirk hitting a homerun and scoring three runs.
