Tennis overpowers the Stars and Trojans

Mountain Tennis (13-8; 8-1 SEYL) recorded a pair of convincing victories in SEYL play last week, defeating North and Foothill by identical 8-1 team scores.

In the win over North, Simon Weber (6-0, 6-0), Justin Ostrem (6-3, 6-4), Branden Dunn (6-1, 6-0), Wyatt Newman (6-2, 7-6), Eric Bilotta (6-1, 6-0) and Ryan Garcia (6-2, 6-1) won in singles and Weber-Dunn (6-1, 6-3) and Bilotta-Mitchell Marquez (6-2, 6-4) won in doubles.

Taking victories against Foothill were Weber (6-0, 6-1), Ostrem (7-5, 6-1), Dunn (7-5, 6-2), Newman (6-1, 6-1), Bilotta (6-0, 6-0) and Garcia (7-5, 6-1) in singles and Weber-Newman (6-2, 6-0) and Bilotta-Spencer Rosas (8-5) in doubles.

In junior varsity action, the Braves (15-1; 9-0 SEYL) clinched at least a share of the SEYL title with a 7-2 victory over North and a 9-0 win over Foothill.

Jack Brewer (8-0), Ethan Zehr (8-3), Carson Kolb (8-0), Trent Botbyl (8-3), Aidan Moon (8-5), Chandler Cazares (8-3) and Brewer-Zehr (8-1) recorded match wins over North, while Brewer (8-1), Zehr (8-1), Kolb (8-3), Botbyl (8-2), Moon (8-7; 8-5), Mark Hendeson (8-3), Brewer-Zehr (8-1), Kolb-Botbyl (8-3), Cazares-Seth Lum (8-6) and Dorian Dirksen-Tristan Crane (6-2) earned match victories over Foothill.

Both the Warriors and Braves will have their final SEYL match of the season next Tuesday, April 22 against Garces. The varsity will also have the SEYL Individual Championships next Thursday and Friday at Garces.
