Tehachapi Valley Wrestling Club will host a tournament this Saturday, May 24 at the THS gym starting at 9 a.m. The community is encouraged to come out and support Tehachapi’s young wrestlers. There is not an admission charge to attend.
In recent TVWC events, the youth wrestlers competed in the Kern County Wrestling Association Coyote Classic in Shafter.
This is a two-part trophy series with the second event (Roadrunner Tournament) coming later in the season. KCWA made this year's series an historical event, creating the first all-girls division tournament in Kern County.
"There were about 50 girls wrestling in varies weight and age divisions. It was great to have the girls to be able to compete only against other girls and our wrestlers had some awesome matches,” said Head coach Adrian Hart.
TVWC girls that competed were Savannah Cordova (second place – rookie), Maria Burbano (third place — novice) and Reese Hart (third place — bantam).
The boys division saw some tough competitors from all around the state. Junior division wrestler Thomas Esquivel continued to prove his mat skills and won the "big trophy". Schoolboy Zack Dobbins made it into the medal matches and got third. Rookie wrestlers Isaac Medina, Justin Martinez and Noah Cardenas placed sixth.
Other TVWC wrestlers were Levi Hart and Jairden Medina (eighth place - intermediate) and Ethan Cardenas (eighth place – bantam).
