Basketball wins Arvin Tournament Lady Warriors go undefeated in five games

The Lady Warriors closed out 2012 on a high note, winning all five games on their schedule en route to a first place showing at the Arvin Tournament.

Tehachapi (11-3) recorded victories over Wasco (36-18), West (39-33), Arvin (55-34), Hoover-Fresno (43-30) and the tournament title game over Delano (50-31).

In the championship game over Delano, Dani Peacon led the team with 16 points and seven steals, while Rheanna Cowee and Alyssa Garcia also both scored in double figures with 10 points each, with Cowee recording a game-high 22 rebounds and Garcia a game high eight steals and seven assists.

The Lady Warriors led every quarter against the Tigers, pulling away in the fourth quarter 16-7 to take the tournament victory in a runaway blowout.

In the victory over Hoover, Danielle Simpson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Cowee had the top tally in rebounds again with 12.

Against host Arvin, the Lady Warriors had one of their most balanced outputs on the season with Madison Frey recording 11 points and 10 rebounds, Simpson 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Cowee 10 points and 17 rebounds to lead a trio double-double effort. Garcia also scored in double figures with 12 points, while also adding four assists and six boards.

Cowee had a game high 14 rebounds and Simpson 13 points over West, while Frey led the win in the tournament opener over Wasco with 11 points.

Peacon, Garcia and Frey were all-tournament selections, while Peacon was named as the tournament's most valuable player.

Mountain Basketball will continue their pre-season march next Tuesday with a home game scheduled against Golden Valley. The Freshmen will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the Jayvee at 5:15 p.m. and the Varsity at 7 p.m.
