JV basketball races past Highland and East

The Lady Braves (2-0 SEYL) basketball team recorded a pair of victories to start the league season with a 43-19 win over East and a 36-22 win over Highland.

Angelika Kroeger had 19 points, four rebounds and three steals and Una Abarquez had eight points and seven rebounds in the win over East.

Other standouts included Brooke Langston with four points and six rebounds and Fiona Ferry with eight steals and four points. Kirsten Medovitch, Brianna Mendez and America Sanchez all recorded three rebounds each.

Against Highland, Kroeger had 13 points and three rebounds, Carissa Hall, Langston and Rebecca Kirk all had four points each, and Ferry and Abarquez chipped in with three points apiece. Kirk also led the team in rebounds with five in the game.


Tehachapi (1-1 SEYL) lost a close contest to East 21-19 but bounced back to win over Highland last Thursday, 22-15.

Emily Soto and Shelby Hanzel both had seven points over Highland, with Soto also contributing a team-high 11 rebounds.

Jasmine Medovith had four points and nine rebounds and Madi Cornell had three points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals to highlight other performances.

Against East, Hanzel had 10 points, five steals and four rebounds and Medovitch had five rebounds and four points. In other highlights, Vanessa Swan had three points and three rebounds, Elena Quintanilla had a basket and Soto had five rebounds.
