Mountain Cagers remain undefeated

After a seesaw battle in the first half, the Warriors took control of the game in third and fourth quarters to cruise to a 77-58 win at home over Wasco last week.

Mountain Basketball outscored the Tigers 48-31 in the second half to ice the win, led by a balanced scoring attack from Cory Lange with 28 points, Justin Hedberg with 18 points and Darren Smith with 16 points.

Lange also got the crowd fired up at the end of the third quarter, with a buzzer-beating three pointer from nearly the full length of the court.

Other scoring leaders included Luke Henderson with seven points, including a game opening three-pointer, Tyler Beardsley with six points and Gabe Saavedra with two points.

With the win, Tehachapi (14-7; 6-0 SSL) remains undefeated in league play with Shafter keeping close pace with the Warriors with a 14-5 (5-1 SSL) record.

The Warriors will take on Shafter on the road this Friday night with South Sequoia League title implications on the line. With the win, Mountain Basketball could clinch at least a share of the league crown.

Junior Varsity

The Braves secured another SSL win last Friday night with a 46-25 win over Wasco.

Tehachapi (7-9; 4-2 SSL) was led in scoring by Ryan Flick with nine points, Dakota Medovitch with eight points and Micah Fjeld with eight points and nine rebounds.

Andrew Borst also had six points and four assists, Adam Pinckard had seven points, David Wier four points and Dylan Smith four rebounds.

Caleb Austin, Joseph Sales and Jordan Reed also scored points for the Braves.

Freshmen

The Indians remained on pace to compete for a league title with a 40-27 win over Wasco last Friday afternoon.

Tehachapi (7-4; 5-1 SSL) was led by Nick Madden, who had his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Other leaders were Isaiah Johnson with 13 points, three rebounds and a block, Phillip Baquerizo with five points and four rebounds and Anthony Curiel with four points and three rebounds.

Taft is currently the leader in the league standings at the freshmen level. Tehachapi will face off against Taft next Tuesday, Feb.14 with a chance to either tie or potentially take sole possession of first place in the SSL.

    The news that the Pahnamid Wind Energy project has been withdrawn from the County Planning Office is good news to most of us up here on the mountain. After spending several million dollars between the City of Tehachapi’s General Plan, the County’s Specific Plan, and the Kern Council of Government’s “Blueprint,” it would be foolish to start making zoning changes at the first opportunity.
