Girls Soccer edged in SEYL openers

The Lady Warriors opened up the league season this past week with a 2-1 loss to Foothill and a 3-0 loss to Garces.

Ashley Villegas scored a goal off an assist from Jessica Seier against Foothill in the 70th minute to tie the game, but a free kick was awarded to Foothill in the 77th minute, which was booted in for a goal and the game winner.

“It was an unstoppable shot for the win (by Foothill) but the girls played their best game yet,” said head coach Corin Gonzalez.

Sarah Forbes had 11 saves in the first period and Ashley Rush had seven saves in the second period against the Trojans.

Forbes and Rush both recorded four saves apiece in the shutout loss against Garces. The Lady Warriors were doomed from the start against the Rams, hampered by injuries in their lineup. Only two subs were available for the majority of the contest.

“The girls give their whole heart, sacrificing their body in every game,” added Gonzalez. “With experience and time we will win.”
