Volleyball setting the stage Lady Warriors eye league title this week

With two more wins notched in their belt, the Lady Warriors have put themselves in a position to win a potential title share and another shot to defeat league front-runner Garces. Along with a league championship, Tehachapi (29-1; 7-1 SEYL) can make history this week by becoming the first THS volleyball team to reach the 30-win milestone in the regular season.

The Lady Warriors inched closer to these significant achievements because of a pair of league victories last week, defeating North 25-11, 25-11, 25-10 and Highland 25-17, 25-15, 25-10.

Elayna Cramer had six kills and five blocks in the win over North, while Kim Smith and Destiny Juyle both had seven kills each. Samantha Wallace led the team with 26 assists, while Kayleigh Jarrett had five digs and Tiffany Short four kills and four aces. Danielle Simpson also logged in five kills. Against Highland, Smith led the team with 10 kills, seven blocks and four aces, while Kayleigh Jarrett had 18 digs.Kendall Kapitzke also had four digs, and Wallace had 28 assists and three aces. Other leaders included Julye, Cramer, Short and Simpson, who all combined for 21 kills in the winning effort.

The Lady Warriors will take on Foothill at home this Tuesday before the big league title showdown with Garces this Thursday in Bakersfield. Both matches wills start at 6:30 p.m.

Junior Varsity

The Lady Braves (10-6; 4-4 SEYL) opened the week with a 22-25, 21-25 loss to Highland, but bounced back with a 25-7, 22-25, 17-15 win over North last Thursday afternoon.

Brooke Boyd had 11 kills, two aces and three digs in the win over North. Taylor Fritz also had seven kills, Madison Stone five kills and Kirsten Medovitch three kills in the win.

Leading the team in aces was Cassidy Lambeth with three, while Presslee Gallegos had 30 assists.

Against Highland, Boyd had nine kills, four blocks and three aces, while Stone had four digs and two kills.

Veronica Molidor and Fritz also had a block, while Kaeleigh Aitchison had two digs and Jasmine Delgadillo and Alanna Bell a dig apiece.

Frosh-Soph

Tehachapi (8-8; 3-5 SEYL) defeated Highland 26-24, 25-13 and lost a close three game match to North 26-24, 20-25, 8-15 to split the league week.

Adrianne Jacobs, Amanda Lara, Roni Norris and Brianna Mendez all combined for nine kills in the win over Highland.

Lizzie Segovia led the team with three aces, followed by Lara with two aces and Alex Caballero, Alex Peacon, Kaylee Lambert and Mendez each with an ace.

In the match against North, Mendez had three kills and three aces, while Valerie Malcom, Lara, Norris, Caballero and Peacon each had an ace.

Other leaders included Norris with three kills and Lambert with two kills.
