The Lady Warriors ended their season in the CIF Central Section Division II finals last week, falling 7-2 to no. 1 seed Sanger.

Tehachapi (16-10) nearly had a 3-3 tie after singles play when Darian Grisso and Brooke Neufeld both lost in close super tiebreaker matches, but the Lady Warriors could only muster a win in fifth singles when Sarah Jensen won against her opponent, 6-2, 6-2.

Grisso lost her match in first singles 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 and Neufeld lost her match in sixth singles, 6-0, 4-6, 10-4.

Two of the doubles matches also went to super tiebreakers, with Meagan Thiesse and Shelby Newman winning at third doubles, 5-7, 7-5, 12-10, and Ashley Rush and Lexi Zimmerman narrowly losing at second doubles, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.

With the win, Sanger moves on to play Edison in the CIF championship, which defeated Central 5-4 in the other half of the Division II bracket.

In individual CIF play, Tehachapi had a good showing in the South Area Singles and Doubles Tournament, with Grisso and Alexis Schoenberg representing the community in singles and Rush-Zimmerman representing THS in doubles.

Rush and Zimmerman defeated their first round opponent from BCHS 6-1, 7-5 and drew a tough opponent in the second round in the no. 1 overall seed and eventual CIF section champion from Garces, losing 6-3, 6-0 to end their season.

Schoenberg lost her first round match against her opponent from BCHS, but Grisso earned a tournament wild card as the no. 6 seed after defeating her opponent from Ridgeview 6-7, 6-1, 6-1.

As the wildcard, Grisso earned the no. 15 seed in the prestigious CIF Central Section Individuals Tournament, earning the distinction as one of the top 16 singles players in Central California.

With the Lady Warriors season concluded, All-SEYL first, second and honorable mention selections will be announced in a future edition of The Tehachapi News.
