Lady Warriors soccer ends league play

The South Sequoia League season ended on a high note for the Lady Warriors with a 2-0 win over Arvin and a 7-0 win over Shafter this past week in soccer action.

Despite collecting nearly 30 shots on goal, Arvin hung tough with Tehachapi last Tuesday but the Lady Warriors were still able to record an Eliana Navarro goal from 18 yards out and a penalty kick goal from Tiffany Short with 10 minutes remaining in the game to record the 2-0 win.

"We had some rocket shots and some good looks. We must have had at least a dozen balls that hit the frame," said head coach Tom Franchere. "It wasn't our best performance but the girls made up for it against Shafter."

The Lady Warriors exploded for seven goals in their league finale, with Melanie Roussel recording a hat trick three goal effort, followed by Ariel Diehl with two goals and Kimmy Worland and Short with net finders.

Casey Weisenseel also had an assist, while Diehl and Roussel had two assists each and Short one assist.

"We were very happy with the girls, it was a great tune-up to the playoffs," added Franchere. "We have everyone back and healthy and playing strong."

With the win, Tehachapi (21-5-1; 8-1-1 SSL) earned a high seed in the CIF Division III playoffs set to start this week. For more information on seedings and pairings, please visit cifcs.org.

"If our girls can stay focused they can go far," Franchere said. "They want it and they know what to expect. We're looking forward to it."

The Lady Braves (9-9-3; 6-3-1 SSL) closed out their season with a win against Shafter, recording a 2-0 win over the Lady Generals off two goals from Ana Gomez.

Briana Ortiz and Sheridan Morigeau both split time at goalie to help preserve the shutout win.

Tehachapi finished the season as the second place team in the SSL to champion Wasco. In the last 10 seasons of jayvee soccer, Tehachapi has recorded two second place and eight first place finishes in the SSL.

Wind Energy

  1. Planning down on the ranch

The news that the Pahnamid Wind Energy project has been withdrawn from the County Planning Office is good news to most of us up here on the mountain. After spending several million dollars between the City of Tehachapi’s General Plan, the County’s Specific Plan, and the Kern Council of Government’s “Blueprint,” it would be foolish to start making zoning changes at the first opportunity.
