Mountain tennis sweeps Foothill; Lady Warriors win fourth league match in SEYL

The Lady Warriors moved their record to 8-6 (4-1 SEYL) this past week after defeating Foothill 9-0 in Bakersfield.

Darian Grisso (6-0, 6-0), Lexi Zimmerman (6-2, 6-1), Ashley Rush (6-2, 6-3), Alexis Schoenberg (6-2, 6-3), Sarah Jensen (6-0, 6-0)and Brooke Neufeld (6-0, 6-0) all helped Tehachapi complete the singles sweep.

The Lady Warriors continued to dominate in doubles, with Rush-Zimmerman (6-1, 6-1), Meagan Thiesse – Shelby Newman (6-2, 6-2) and Carrie Brewer – Laney Ricker (6-1, 6-0) providing wins to complete the shutout.

Mountain Tennis also had a contest with Garces at home last Thursday, giving the Division I power one of their most competitive matches of the season in a 7-2 defeat.

Grisso lost only 6-2, 6-3 to Gracie Jacobs, one of the top players in the central section, and Tehachapi recorded wins in doubles with Zimmerman-Rush winning in second doubles and Thiesse-Brewer winning in third doubles 0-6, 6-4, 10-4.

Tehachapi will continue league play this week with a home match against East this Tuesday and another home contest against Highland on Thursday.

Junior Varsity

The Lady Braves junior varsity team has started off strong in league play with recent victories over North 9-0, Highland 8-1 and Foothill 9-0, losing only to Garces last Thursday 7-2.

Brianna Benedict (8-2), Audrey Moon (8-0), Madison Johnson (8-1), Sarah Mace-Rodon (8-4), Scarlette Whitted (8-1) and Jessica Seier (8-0) won in singles against Foothill this past week, while Benedict-Johnson (8-2), and Moon-Taylor Cummings (8-3) won in doubles.

Against Garces, Seier won in no.6 singles 8-6, while Kate Judy and Cummings won at third doubles 8-6.

In the North match, Benedict (8-3), Moon (8-6), Johnson (8-1), Mace-Rodon (8-4), Whitted (8-5) and Seier (8-0) won in singles while Benedict-Johnson (8-6), Cummings-Seier (8-3) and Kate Judy-Freja Alpsten (8-7, 7-4) won in doubles.

Winning matches for Tehachapi (4-1 SEYL) against Highland came from Benedict (8-0), Moon (8-1), Johnson (8-3), Mace-Rodon (8-3) and Seier (8-3) in singles and Benedict-Johnson (8-1), Moon-Seier (8-3) and Cummings-Micaela Pryor (8-0) in doubles.
