Braves win league debut over East
Anthony Curiel and Willy Urciel both rushed for 93 yards apiece to help the Braves win their SEYL debut over East, 26-14 last Friday afternoon.
Curiel had 93 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns, while Urciel had 93 yards on 13 carries and the game’s first score, set up off a Jake Walters 59 yard punt return to the Dirks 10 yard line.
Other offensive leaders included Nick Steele with 36 yards on seven attempts and Jacob Gray with 25 yards on four carries.
On defense, Caleb Huebner and Michael Piekarski led the way with six tackles, while Gabe Dodge had four tackles and three sacks.
Steele also had four tackles and Luke Potter and Jerry Castaneda both had two sacks apiece. Gray also recorded a game ending interception and Samuel Hanley a fumble recovery on special teams.
The Braves (4-1-1; 1-0 SEYL) will be on the road for their second league game against Highland this Friday afternoon.
Indians win league opener over East
The Indians recorded their second straight victory of the year, winning their league opener over East 27-19 last Thursday in Bakersfield.
Segun Gainey rushed for 177 yards on 15 carries, scoring three touchdowns and a two point run. Jacob Gonzales also had a standout defensive performance, recording 21 tackles and a 50 yard fumble return for a touchdown.
Gainey also had 21 yards passing and eight tackles on defense, while Nic Ledesma had seven tackles and Ben Hosier, Cade Temple, Wyatt Jorgensen and Steven Garcia each had six tackles.
Daniel Wright had another all-around standout performance for the second straight week, catching two passes for 46 yards and registering seven tackles on defense.
The Indians (2-3; 1-0 SEYL) also had an interception for the second week in a row, with Jack Salzman hauling in an interception against West last week and Jordan Haubruge this past week against East.
