Post season begins Garces defeats Warriors in league finale, 21-7

In a playoff-like atmosphere in week 10, an standing room only crowd at Coy Burnett Field witnessed the two top teams in the SEYL battle for league supremacy and the no.1 seed in the CIF Central Section Division II playoffs.

Garces defeated Tehachapi in the contest 21-7, but the Warriors showed resiliency on defense, giving up only three touchdowns to a team that came into SEYL championship with an average of 46 points a game.

Mountain Football also held prolific quarterback Cruise Adams without a passing touchdown for the first time all season, holding the Garces all-time passing leader to only 148 yards through the air.

Overall, Ian Neufeld and Steven Cross recorded first half interceptions to keep the score knotted at 0-0 through a quarter, and Logan Smith had a fumble recovery in the second half to thwart a Ram drive.

On offense, Jorge Garcia led the team in rushing with 85 yards on the ground and Curry had 57 yards rushing and a fourth quarter touchdown.

Chris Rhodes also had a 14-yard reception and Garcia a 16-yard catch from Warrior quarterback Bobby Howell.

In special teams, Dakota Medovitch had a 51 yard punt in the first half, while Blake Panek had a punt block and Ty Curry a block on an extra point attempt.

With the regular season concluded, Tehachapi will begin the playoffs this Friday night as the no.6 seed, taking on no.11 West at Coy Burnett Field at 7 p.m.

The last time Tehachapi played West, Mountain Football defeated the Vikings 34-29 in the final game before starting the SEYL season.

THS Boosters host tail gate dinner Friday

Join the Warrior Booster Club for a tailgate dinner in the Coy Burnett Field parking lot on Tehachapi Blvd. prior to the Tehachapi vs. West CIF Division II playoff game this Friday.

Steak Tacos with all the fixings and various other types of food will be on the menu. The cost is $10 per plate and food will be served from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. this Friday evening.
