Mountain Cross Country ended their season last Thursday afternoon in Fresno by competing in the CIF Division III championships at Woodward Park.
The varsity men took 24th place with a team score of 633 and the varsity girls came in ninth place overall with a team score of 295.
In the 5K course, Alexis Namey came in 19th with a time of 20:41 and Jessica Perrault came in 27th with a time of 20:55. Leaders for the men included Joseph Budai (18:24), Wesley Poulson (18:45), Oscar Machado (19:39) and Daniel Green (20:22).
“All in all it was a slightly down year for THS Cross Country. Our results weren't as impressive as in years past. But we were young and the underclassmen showed some great potential for the years to come,” said head coach Mike Heckathorn.
Earlier this month in the SEYL championship, the varsity men took fifth, varsity women sixth, jayvee boys second and jayvee girls sixth in team scoring.
Receiving medals for the Braves were Wesley Poulson (second overall; first in jayvee division), Ethan Zehr (fourth) and Justin Amparan (sixth). Alexis Namey (ninth) and Jessica Perreault (10th) were the top runners for the Lady Warriors and Julie Stickney (seventh) earned top-10 honors for the Lady Braves.
“Injuries were a major source of contention all year both on the men’s and women’s side. We'll definitely be back in the running next year,” added Heckathorn.
