Lady Warriors win league openers; THS Basketball takes out East and Highland

Mountain Basketball opened up league with an impressive start by rolling to a pair of wins over East 48-22 and Highland 50-15 in basketball action last week.

Tehachapi (15-4; 2-0 SEYL) had every single Lady Warrior score at least one basket in the victory over East. Alyssa Garcia led the way with nine points, 10 rebounds, six steals and four assists and Brandi Davidson had seven points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Other contributors included Laney Ricker with six points and two steals, Brooke Boyd with five points and five rebounds, and Shelby Ricker with five points, five steals and three assists.

Also scoring was Kelsey Vance and Dani Peacon with four points each, and Noemi Lorenz, Lexi Garrett, Leja Jakstaite and Daisy Moran each with two points. Lorenz's basket was her first of the season.

Against Highland, the Lady Warriors overcame a cold shooting first quarter with 22 points in the second quarter, jumping to a 27-6 lead by halftime. Garcia had 12 points, eight rebounds, six steals and four assists in the win, followed by Laney Ricker with 10 points and three steals and Peacon with nine points.

Vance and Davidson both had four points, Moran and Shelby Ricker had three points and five rebounds apiece, Garrett and Jakstaite both had two points, and Boyd had five rebounds.

Tehachapi will be on the road at Foothill this Thursday and take on Garces at home this upcoming Tuesday. Both games are scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
