Parks and Rec: Coaches are needed for t-ball and sign ups for adult leagues

Seniors Fitness

Tehachapi Parks and Rec is offering a senior’s fitness class! Seniors are encouraged to give it a try for free on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. and the park office, 490 West D Street.

Lori Martin has spent several years developing a specialized exercise class specific to the needs of seniors. This hour-long class addresses balance, bone and muscle strength, cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility and joint health to help seniors move more confidently through life. Lori takes special care to individualize specific exercises to address participants’ physical needs and concerns.

Ongoing classes will begin March 6 and run Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11 a.m. Cost will be $40/month or $7 per class.

Coaches are needed for Tehachapi Parks and Rec T-Ball, which begins in April for 4 to 7 year olds. Registrations are being taken at the parks office now through March 22. Practice begins April 1; games begin April 15. Children ages 4 and 5 play Mondays and Wednesdays; 6 and 7 year olds play Tuesdays and Thursdays. All games are played at Meadowbrook Park in Golden Hills. Cost is $65. For more information or to register, call the park office at 822-3228.

T-Ball serves as an entry sport to baseball and softball for young players. Members of two teams take turns hitting a ball off a batting tee set on home plate; batters try to get on base and advance to home; fielders try to prevent that from happening. The elimination of pitching allows children to participate without the fear of being hit by a pitched ball. T-ball develops the primary baseball skills of hitting, running, fielding and throwing and players gain an understanding of the fundamental rules, which allows minimally competitive league play.
T-ball is played across the United States and internationally.

Participation is estimated at 2.2 million players, 65 percent boys and 35 percent girls.
