Earlier this month, a cluster of local golf enthusiasts ascended on Horse Thief Country Club to take part in the annual Warrior Booster Golf Tournament, an event that brings both fun and a chance to raise money for athletic events at Tehachapi High School.
Overall, the booster club raised $3,500 for THS athletics in the four-person, A-through-D group scramble tournament, which also had 18-hole sponsorships from various businesses throughout Tehachapi.
Thirteen teams competed in the tourney overall, with winners including the team of Charlie Walz, Doug DeGeer, Nick Cyr and Chris Carlson with a scratch score of 58, and Paul Ogilvie, Nick Martin, Bret Oberg and Tim Antongiovanni with a handicap score of 46.
The longest putt winner was Dennis Ruggles and the longest drive went to Chris Carlson (A), Joe Ochoa (B), Norm Villanueva (C) and Warren Rabe (D). Closest to the pin winners were Don Kanallakan (A -- 7ft, 9in), Chris Olofson (B - 10ft, 8in), Norm Villanueva (C -- 18ft, 5in) and Randy Jackson (D -- 16in).
This year's tournament was spearheaded by Dick Dieterle and Grant Snyder.
"A special thank you to all who helped make the tourney a success. From our players and all their great shots, to our coordinators and sponsors, it was a lot of fun," said Dieterle. "Grant Snyder did a super job of organizing the activity and Patti Snyder and Donna Dieterle made the registration go smoothly."
Hole sponsors included Bill Wright Toyota, Banks Pest Control, Tompkins Elementary School, Larry Morphis, Mike Sullivan, Rick Ramos, M&M's Sports, Carpet Outlet Plus, Sequoia Physical Therapy (Derek Thompson), Jim Hollen, Scott's Auto Body, The Village Grille, Christy Rabe (Coldwell) and Dennis Fitzjerrell. Horse Thief Country Club also contributed with their fantastic help and facilities along with providing a tourney gift certificate.
"Successful activities depend on great people and we had the great people," Dieterle said. "We look forward to everyone's participation next year on the Saturday after Labor Day. Sandbagger's welcome."
