The Lady Warriors have continued to reel in impressive results in the preseason, almost recording a win last week against perennial Kern County volleyball power Stockdale.
Tehachapi (17-2) had match point with the score at 14-12 in the fifth and deciding game, but the Mustangs won four straight points to escape with a 26-24, 20-25, 25-22, 16-14 win over the Warriors.
Destiny Julye had 18 kills and Elayna Cramer posted 17 kills to lead the Lady Warriors' front court, while Kendall Kapitzke, Brooklynn Cheney and Kim Smith combined for 17 kills.
Samantha Wallace also had a strong game with a team-high four aces, nine digs and 44 assists, while Maddie Orellana and Julye had seven digs each and Kelsey Schoenberg had six digs.
Smith also had a season-high 21 blocks and Cheney reached double-digits in blocks with 10 recorded.
The Lady Warriors also participated in the Madera Classic Tournament this past weekend, going 3-0 in their preliminary round matches this past Friday with wins over Reedley (25-18, 25-19), Immanuel (25-12, 25-15) and Sanger (25-15, 25-15). In the first three contests, Julye led the team in combined kills with 25, followed by Cramer's 16 kills. Wallace also had 63 combined assists.
Full results of the Madera Classic will be highlighted next week.
Tehachapi will have a home match against Frazier Mountain this Tuesday. The varsity will have first serve at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Braves recorded a 25-18, 20-25, 15-12 victory over Burroughs earlier this month and recently had a 2-1-2 record at the Golden Valley Tournament in Bakersfield.
Against Burroughs, Kirstin Kabonic had seven kills and Taylor Fritz had four kills, followed by Kirsten Medovitch, Madison Stone and Cassidy Lambeth with three kills apiece.
Breelyn Beath also had three service aces and Stone and Kaeleigh Aitchison had two service aces each. Heath also had three digs while Medovitch recorded two blocks.
Presslee Gallegos led the team in assists with 16 on the evening.
Wins in the Golden Valley Tournament came against West (25-14, 25-11) and Garces (25-13) and ties were recorded against East (16-25, 25-11) and Arvin (21-25, 25-18). The Lady Braves also had a loss against Bakersfield Christian in the tournament.
Heath had five aces in each game over Arvin and East, Stone had six kills in the win over West and Fritz and Kabonic had four kills each in the victory over Garces.
Most recently, Tehachapi had a 2-1 loss against Stockdale, losing 25-16, 23-35, 15-5 against the Mustangs last Tuesday in Bakersfield. Jasmine Delgadillo and Alex Peacon had six and five kills, respectively and Lambeth had a team-high six kills in the defeat.
Tehachapi (6-2-2) will be at home this Tuesday against Frazier Mountain, with the match set for a 5 p.m. start time.
The Lady Indians lost a close 21-25, 25-16, 15-11 contest to Stockdale last Tuesday afternoon. Despite the loss, Tehachapi had strong games from Tessa Watts, Taylor Williams, Makenna Panek and Stevie Smith, who all had two kills apiece.
Smith also had two aces and three digs and Jasmine Medovitch and Watts each had a block. America Sanchez, Emily Soto, Nariel Hernandez also had three digs each.
Earlier this month, Tehachapi (2-6-1) played in a tournament in Bakersfield, recording a tie against Wasco and a 15-10, 15-12 victory over Bakersfield High.
Taylor Williams had eight aces and Lindsay Nava and Watts had two kills each against the Drillers.
The Lady Indians match against Frazier Mountain will start at 4 p.m. this Tuesday.
