Mountain cross country has had a successful preseason so far, recently taking on Kern Country competition at the Wolfpack Invite and Blade Invite in Bakersfield.
Participating in the Wolfpack Invite run at the Riverwalk, Joseph Budai (18:48) and Daniel Green (19:59) were the top runners for the varsity men and Jessica Perreault (20:33) and Alexis Namey (21:30) were the top women in the three-mile course. Perreault received an individual medal for her efforts, finishing in 13th place overall.
In the junior varsity division two-mile course, Mark Caldwell (13:27) and Andrew Bartels (13:42) were the top runners for the boys and Julie McCool (15:31) was the top girl, finishing 12th and qualifying for an individual medal. Top frosh runners were Jacob Heier (13:02) and Doug Buckley (13:05).
In the Blade Invite hosted by East-Bakersfield High, over 20 schools in Kern County showed up at Lake Ming to run the two-mile and three-mile courses.
Turning in the top marks for the THS varsity men were Aiden Gillam (18:38), Oscar Machado (18:44) and Davin Domingo (18:59) and the women were led by Jessica Perreault (20:34), Alexis Namey (20:55) and Tori Perreault (21:53).
THS runners continue to rewrite the THS record books this season. Jessica Perreault and Alexis Namey have ran in three-straight invitationals and have set school records in all of them.
Also performing well in the Blade Invite two-mile course were JV runners Daniel Green (15:27), Angie Kroeger (18:17) and Eva Rowe (18:23).
Kroeger and Rowe placed 26th and 27th out of 150 runners competing.
Frosh-soph boys Wesley Poulson (15:04), Ethan Zehr (15:24) and Jacob Heier (16:05) also turned in strong times.
This Saturday, THS will go to Taft to compete in the Wildcat Gold Rush Invite to close out the preseason schedule.
