The Warriors had four players score in double figures in a key 64-46 league victory over Shafter last Friday night.

After starting the game with a low scoring 10-8 first quarter lead, Tehachapi (16-7; 8-0 SSL) exploded for 18 points in the first eight minutes of the second quarter to distance themselves from Shafter.

"We had a good mix tonight of players contributing and that's a great sign," said head coach Chris Olofson. "Our guys are playing team basketball and that's what it's going to take to win down the stretch."

Tyler Beardsley recorded a three-pointer with less than a minute remaining in the second quarter to help the Warriors go up 36-22 at halftime.

In the third quarter, a Cory Lange fast break dunk helped fuel an 11-2 run, and then two lay-ups by Justin Hedberg and Darren Smith late in the fourth quarter gave Mountain Basketball a 61-40 lead to put the game away for good.

Overall, Hedberg finished as the high scorer with 17 points, followed by Lange with 15 points, Smith with 13 points and Beardsley with 10 points. Luke Henderson and Dalton Scaggs also had five and four points, respectively.

Earlier in the week, Tehachapi dispatched Arvin 68-35 behind 17 points from Lange and a six point and six rebound effort from Justin Hedberg. Ryan Harris and Henderson had eight points apiece, Scaggs six points, Cody Hall and Gabe Saavedra three points each, and Zach Poulson and Armando Perez two points each.

"It was a good week overall but we can't let down," added Olofson.

"We have two good basketball teams on our schedule this week and we have to be ready for them."

  1. Planning down on the ranch

The news that the Pahnamid Wind Energy project has been withdrawn from the County Planning Office is good news to most of us up here on the mountain. After spending several million dollars between the City of Tehachapi’s General Plan, the County’s Specific Plan, and the Kern Council of Government’s “Blueprint,” it would be foolish to start making zoning changes at the first opportunity.
