Warrior Zach Allen, on left, not only escaped from the grasp of this Foothill wrestler, he went on to pin his opponent and claim the championship of the 160-pound weight class in the South East Yosemite League finals held at East Bakersfield High School.
Spearheaded by Dillan Harroun’s recognition as the most outstanding upper-weight wrestler of the tournament, the Warriors had four student-athletes earn SEYL titles last Friday afternoon at East High School.
Harroun won the league championship at 182 pounds with two pins, defeating his opponent from North in 38 seconds and a wrestler from Foothill in the finals at the 2:42 mark.
Other league champions included Klayton Duxbury (132 pounds), Jacob Gamble (138 pounds) and Zach Allen (160 pounds), who all combined for an undefeated 7-0 in the tournament.
Duxbury had a 16-3 major decision win and a pin at 3:21 in the finals, Gamble had a pair of pins at the 5:10 and 4:51 marks, and Allen had three pins at 3:00, 1:18 and 5:04.
Fletcher Allen (126 pounds) nearly had a league title as well, losing a close 10-8 decision in his championship match, while Thomas Duran (152 pounds) was also a championship finalist with a second place finish.
Other highlights included Garrett Janney (106 pounds) finishing in fourth place and Zach Minton (145 pounds) ending in fifth place.
In the team tallies, the THS varsity team finished with 141 total points and the second most first place finishes in league. Foothill won the SEYL title and had seven first place finishes at tournament’s end.
In the junior varsity ranks, Colten Eaton (126 pounds) won a league title, while Andrew Lindsey (132 pounds) and Branden Dunn (160 pounds) were second, Dean Hoisington (145 pounds) took third and Jacob Leighty (138 pounds) finished in fourth.
The Warriors will move on to the Yosemite Division Valley Championships at Madera South High School this Friday and Saturday.
The top eight finishers in each weight class at the Yosemite finals will participate in the Central Section Masters next weekend at Mt. Whitney-Visalia High School.
