New classes offered at Parks & Rec
Welcome Lori Martin
Lori Martin moved to Tehachapi from Simi Valley in September and is looking forward to teaching two new classes for parks and rec.
As a certified personal trainer and certified group exercise instructor, Lori was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12 and placed in a “special needs” PE class. In retrospect, Lori attributes her experience to her lifelong passion for fitness, core strength, and tenacity. “I watched the other kids play basketball,” Lori said, “while I was instructed on the use of hand weights, stretching and good ’ol fashioned callisthenic exercises.”
More than 25 years later, Lori says her experiences as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor have taught her more than all of the certification courses, workshops and conferences combined she attended added together.
Silver & Strong
Lori Martin has spent several years developing a specialized exercise class specific to the needs of seniors. This hour-long class addresses balance, bone and muscle strength, cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility and joint health to help seniors move more confidently through life. Classes are individualized to meet physical needs and concerns.
A free try-it workshop will be Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m.
Ongoing classes will begin March 6 on Wednesdays at 11 a.m.

Pilates
Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility, core strength, and endurance. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.
