Mountain Volleyball notched two more wins in their belt this past week, starting league play in impressive fashion with a pair of SEYL victories over Highland (25-18, 25-7, 25-12) and East (25-12, 25-12, 25-18).
Tehachapi (24-0; 2-0 SEYL) continues to remain undefeated on the season and was led in the win against Highland by Samantha Wallace’s 33 assists and 12 kills by both Kim Smith and Destiny Julye.
Smith also had 10 blocks, while Elayna Cramer had a solid all-around night with nine blocks and seven kills. Kayleigh Jarrett led the team in aces with five, winning 20 points overall on serve. Jarrett was also a standout on defense with 13 digs, followed by Katie Neufeld and Miranda Wert with four digs each.
Kelsey Schoenberg also had a strong night with seven points won on serve, while Tiffany Short also had seven service winners and three kills. Samantha Wallace was the team leader in assists with 33, also chipping in with three digs, three blocks and four service winners.
Against East, Danielle Simpson has a strong game with five kills and five blocks, while Julye had nine kills and Short, Smith and Cramer each had four kills.
Jarrett led the team in the backcourt with eight digs and Wallace led in assists with 25 recorded. Leading the way in blocks was Smith with six, followed by Cramer with five stuffs. Smith also had 28 service winners and five aces.
The Lady Braves (1-1 SEYL) closed out the week with a win over Highland after falling 25-21, 25-23 to East in their SEYL opener on Tuesday.
Brooke Boyd led the team in kills in the loss against the Blades, followed by Kristen Medovitch and Alexis Mason with two kills each.
Presslee Gallegos led the team on serve with 10 points won and four aces and Jasmine Delgadillo and Boyd both had five points won and an ace apiece.
Kristin Kabonic, Veronica Molidor, Kristen Medovitch and Boyd all recorded blocks in the match. Alexis Mason and Alanna Bell also had digs and Gallegos led the team in assists with seven.
Tehachapi (1-1 SEYL) split the week at the frosh-soph level, defeating East (27-29, 28-26, 15-8) and losing in a close match to Highland (25-16, 16-23).
Tessa Watts and Amanda Lara led the team with a combined five kills in the marathon win over East.
Roni Norris also had six aces, followed by Amanda Lara with five aces and Alex Caballero with four aces in the victory.
Against Highland, Brianna Mendez and Alex Peacon both had aces and Lizzie Segovia had a team high eight successful service receipts.
