League play just started last week but Tehachapi has found themselves all alone atop the SEYL standings after a pair of convincing victories over East (25-12, 25-12, 25-10) and Highland (25-21, 25-14, 25-13).
Samantha Wallace opened up the serving against East and helped the Lady Warriors build a quick 7-0 lead, closing the third game with two spectacular digs that clinched the three-game sweep. Wallace ended with three aces, two digs and 21 assists in the win.
Kendall Kapitzke also had a strong service game against East with 12 service winners in game two, closing with three digs, three aces and three kills.
Other leaders in the victory over the Blades included Destiny Julye with 10 kills and two digs, Elayna Cramer with six kills and two digs and Kim Smith with six kills and four blocks. Katie Neufeld also had two aces, Miranda Wert had three digs and Kelsey Schoenberg had two digs.
Against Highland, Julye had one of her best performances of the year with a season-high 21 kills. Wallace also had a strong game with 40 assists and Brooklynn Cheney had seven kills and two digs.
Also standing out in the victory over the Scots were Smith with six digs, Cramer and eight kills and three digs, Kapitzke with six kills and five digs, Orellana with three digs and Wert with two digs.
Tehachapi (22-3; 2-0 SEYL) is the only undefeated team left in the league, thanks in part to Highland defeating Garces in four games last Tuesday evening. The Rams also nearly lost to North last Thursday evening, edging out the Stars in five games.
Mountain Volleyball will have an away match against North this Tuesday and another away match against Foothill this Thursday. Both contests will start at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Braves are off to a perfect league start with victories over East, 28-26, 25-19, and Highland, 25-12, 25-13.
Tehachapi (10-6-2; 2-0 SEYL) was led in the East win by Cassidy Lambeth with 11 kills, followed by Taylor Fritz and Kirstin Kabonic with four kills each. Alex Peacon had seven service winners overall, with Kaeleigh Aitchison and Madison Stone both recording two aces apiece. Peacon was the leader in digs with four, followed by Presslee Gallegos and Jade Delgadillo with three digs each. Gallegos also recorded a team high 21 assists.
Against Highland, Fritz had nine kills followed by Kabonic with five kills. Heath had 19 service winners and four aces and Amanda Lara had three aces. Delgadillo and Peacon each had four digs and Gallegos had 16 assists on the afternoon.
The Jayvee squad will travel to Bakersfield this Tuesday against North and again this Thursday against Foothill. Both matches will start at 5 p.m.
Tehachapi (5-6-1; 2-0 SEYL) started off the league season with a pair of wins, defeating East, 25-17, 20-25, 15-12 and Highland, 25-21, 25-21.
Against East, Tessa Watts and Brianna Revelle combined for five kills and Emily Soto led the team with three aces and five blocks. Jasmine Medovitch also had two aces and Revelle had three blocks. Recording digs for the Lady Indians was Taylor Shumway, Stevie Smith, Danielle Smith, Lindsay Nava, Soto and Revelle. Makenna Panek had a team leading three assists in the victory.
In the win over Highland, Watts led the team with seven kills followed by Nikki Minton, Taylor Williams and Nava with two kills each. Williams also had five aces, Soto had three aces, Medovitch had two blocks, and Smith, Soto and Nava each had three digs.
The Indians will have matches against North and Foothill in Bakersfield this Tuesday, starting at 4 p.m.
