Junior varsity squad upends Highland ; Braves first half touchdowns secure victory, 21-6

A stout defense and a strong first half running game helped Tehachapi remain undefeated in league play with a 21-6 victory over Highland last Friday night.

Keyron Scott provided the scoring spark for Tehachapi (6-1; 2-0 SEYL) with three touchdown runs, finishing with 171 yards rushing on 20 carries. Scott scored the first touchdown on the Braves first series on a 68-yard run and scored the last two touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of 2 and 5 yards.

Other offensive leaders included Tanner Herman with 41 yards on three carries and Taydin Macon with 39 yards on 10 attempts.

On defense, Daniel Wight had a standout performance with eight tackles, two sacks and a punt block and fumble recovery that helped set up the final THS touchdown before halftime.

Jacob Gonzales also had eight tackles, Caleb Huebner, Cade Temple and Israel Guerrero had seven tackles apiece, and Gabe Dodge had five tackles and two sacks.

Mountain Football will travel to North this Friday afternoon. The game will start at 5 p.m.



The Indians turned in their strongest defensive performance of the season in a close 7-0 loss to Highland last Thursday.

Tehachapi (0-7; 0-2 SEYL) was led on defense by Tyler Metzler and Tyler Mata with seven tackles each and Logan Snider, Josiah Lundquist, and Dawson Cass each with six tackles. Mata also had a fumble strip.

Other defensive standouts included Joseph Counihan and Gary Gomes with five tackles apiece while Jayce Scott had four tackles, a fumble strip, fumble recovery and a sack.

On offense, Marty McIrvin had 86 yards on 14 carries and Philippe Vachon had 44 yards on nine carries. Cameron Walsh also had two catches for 31 yards, both from quarterback Paul Stephens-Green.

Tehachapi will take on North this Thursday afternoon in Bakersfield. The game will start at 5 p.m.
