TAFT -- The weather was perfect and so were several Tehachapi swimmers, who concluded the 2014 Kern County Swim Council swimming season by placing first in all of their events at the Kern County Swim Championships on July 19, at the Taft High School pool.
An exciting day of competition began as all 11 Kern County teams were announced as they paraded into the pool area to start the day's events.
The Bear Valley Grizzlies Jessica Riggs, came away with first place finishes in every event the 13-year-old competed in, posting a time of 32:62 in the 50-yard butterfly, 36.19 in the 50-yard breaststroke and the 100-IM with a time of 1:13.71.
Other Grizzlies with multiple first-place finishes were 14-year-old Annika Ostrem, 15-year-old Victoria McJunkin and 11-year-old Ella Moomey.
Meanwhile, the Tehachapi Barracudas' Conrad Avalos blew away the competition, registering wins in five different events, including the nine-year-old boy's freestyle finals with an impressive time of 34.12
His teammate Jacob Avalos, 14, also performed well, placing first in all of his four events, which included a time of 25.71, in the boy's 50-yard freestyle finals.
Finally, Tehachapi Baracudas' nine-year-old Carter Yeomans, placed first in multiple events.
Both Tehachapi and Bear Valley competed in the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation qualifier in Wasco on July 26. Qualifiers will then travel to the La Mirada Aquatic Center in Los Angeles to compete in the SCMAF Championship on Aug. 16. For complete results online, visit mark70.com/KernSwim14/ksindex.html
