The Tehachapi Mountain Roller Hockey Club competed in Calabasas Aug. 26-27 against teams from Burbank, San Luis Obispo, and the home team, Calabasas.

Saturday the oldest Falcons played against San Luis Obispo, and then Calabasas got two big wins to start the Falcons off on the right track. They fought hard but lost to Burbank in game three but had done enough earlier to put them in second place to face Calabasas again, ultimately ending in defeat.

Laura LaMonte showed her skills, stopping many hard shots between the pipes while Magnus Loken and Riley Daubert played amazing defense. Daubert, along with her teammates Kamron Westerby and Mychal Backhaus, led the Falcons in scoring on the day.

First up Sunday morning, the Tehachapi 6U team came out strong and blew past their competition. Goaltender Apollos Schaffer anchored the team in net, keeping the opposing team’s scores to a minimum. Captain Lucas Abarquez showed up huge both offensively and defensively to secure another undefeated first-place finish.

The 8U Falcons played Sunday afternoon, getting a 6-1 win against San Luis Obispo, a 6-0 win facing Calabasas, and a 2-0 win versus Burbank in qualifying rounds to advance to the Championship Game where they would defeat the Burbank Blackhawks by a score of 5-1.

Tehachapi was led by goaltender Annie Loken carrying her team, only allowing two goals the entire tournament. Captain Caden Abarquez played stellar defense while still managing to score 5 goals on the day. The remaining 14 goals the Falcons scored came from Rylan Hurst (5), Riley Douglas (5), Mackenzie Fitch (3), and Aaron Marin (1).

Tehachapi 10U came out swinging with a 3-1 victory over San Luis Obispo, a 1-1 tie with Calabasas, and a 5-3 loss to Burbank. In the semi-finals the Falcons pulled off a dominating 11-2 win over San Luis Obispo. However, in the final game the 10U fought hard but ultimately lost to Calabasas 9-2. The Falcons were led by Captain Jayden Hitt with multiple goals and Alternate Captain Haylie Copeland making defensive plays all day that kept her team in every game.
