Ok, First some history on me... I am one of Tehachapis own, but that is probably evident. I joined the U.S. Army in 2004, as an Infantryman. My initial training was conducted at Ft. Benning, GA. From there I went on to be staioned at Ft. Polk, LA. in the 4th brigade of the 10th Mountain Division, 2nd Battalion 30th infantry regiment. I began my service in Charlie Company, "Commandoes" as we were called. I was lucky enough to stay in 2nd squad, 1st platoon for the majority of my time there. I have served as a rifleman, grenadier, and an automatic rifleman. Last year I deployed for the first time to Afghanistan, where I served for six months... After leaving that bitterly cold place, I returned to Fort Polk for seven months. During my time back I was sent to the scout/sniper section of my battalion, which is where I serve today as a senior scout observer. In November I deployed to Iraq, which I must say hasnt been as bad as I thought it would be. User Name: mccool

Hello to all this is Matt's dad just giving an update. Matthew has been very busy and is being moved to Forward Operating Base (FOB) LOYALTY. We received an email today and Matthew informed us he has reenlisted for 4 more years. The only change in his address is the FOB. My son in law Fortune USMC is doing fine in Northeast Baghdad. Also today my nephew Daniel was sworn into the USMC and will enter bot camp when he graduates High School in San Diego. He will be joining his brother Nathaniel who is also serving in the USMC.
Hello son just good old dad getting at ya if ya read this call me. Just miss ya and look forward to hearing from ya soon.

Hey There Cousin...hope all is well with you there in that far away place. Although we have never met, I hold a very special place in my heart for you. You are daily in my thoughts and prayers as you strive to assist in ending the chaos in the Middle East and protect the freedom and rights of others. My step son is a Lance Corporel USMC. Did his basics at Parris Island, SC. Then stationed at San Diego for gunnery training. Then was off to Okinawa since June 2007. Recently back stateside to San Diego. As of yet, has not been deplored but keeping fingers crossed on that matter. Believe that is only a matter of time. Am glad to be able to share your blog with you as your dad sent the address to me. Look forward to reading of your journey and giving me a chance to tell you how proud I am of you and your brothers in arms in a far away place.
Hi Matt, you are so awesome! I saw your address a few weeks back and sent a Christmas card and now I see you have a blog. This is so great. Know my family and I support you 110% and will till you all come home. You are in our thoughts and prayers daily. My son was in the Air Force right out of high school in '98 and spent almost 9 years serving our country. I am so proud of him and you for doing something as unselfish as this. Oh, I am a grandmother of 5 and live in Bakersfield. I hope to meet you someday soon. Take care. Carla
