For those of you who are wondering what is going on in the Walmart parking lot on Tucker Road, wonder no more. Contractors have broken ground for a drive-through restaurant chain coming to Tehachapi.
Panda Express is a fast-casual American Chinese restaurant. Fast-casual is described as fresh ingredients that are prepared quickly.
"This is a long time coming. We have been chatting with Panda for several years now," said Jay Schlosser, development services director for the city of Tehachapi.
According to Schlosser, Panda Express purchased the property from Walmart in which to build the restaurant chain.
The first Panda Express was opened in Glendale in 1983 by the Cherng family. Today, the chain stretches coast to coast and around the world.
According to Susan Wong, corporate spokeswoman, the restaurant should be open sometime in December.
Wong gave a shout out to the city of Tehachapi, especially the Economic Development Department, for their assistance and support.
"I can appreciate Panda Express' trust and investment in our city. It is yet another example of how Tehachapi continues to move forward in a positive fashion, providing additional opportunities for our residents," City Manager Greg Garrett said.
