Hunter Terrell, 7, tried his hand at one of the games offered to children at National Night Out. Terrell said it was his first time attending the annual event, and thought it was a good way to end the summer before heading back to school.

The Tehachapi Police Department and the Tehachapi Police Foundation are once again partnering to host National Night Out at Philip Marx Central Park. The event will take placeĀ from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3. Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District will close out the evening with Movies in the Park beginning at 8 p.m. with a showing of "Raya & the Last Dragon."

National Night Out is an annual crime prevention event and community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

National Night Out is designed to:

- Heighten crime and drug awareness

- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts

- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships

- Send a message to criminals that our neighborhoods are organized, united and looking out for one another!

Nonprofit and community organizations that wish to apply to participate in the event should contact:

• The Tehachapi Police Foundation – Kim Nixon at kimnixon5123@gmail.com 661-619-5123

• Tehachapi Police Department – Lindsay Booth at lbooth@tehachapipd.com 661-822-2222

If you are unable to join in at the park, you can spend the evening outside with your neighbors for a barbecue, potluck or just a front yard chat. Have fun and celebrate your neighborhood.
