The Tehachapi Police Department reported two unknown suspects attempted to steal a catalytic converter from a parked vehicle March 4.
According to TPD news release, a passerby observed a man under a van parked near the intersection of Tucker Road and Cherry Lane around 9:20 a.m. that morning. The witness reported seeing the man trying to remove a catalytic converter with a handsaw.
The witness also reported seeing a second suspect standing to the side who appeared to be acting as a lookout, according to TPD.
After confronting the two suspects, the witness told TPD the two men fled in a vehicle.
The first suspect is described as a Hispanic man, approximately 20 years of age. The second suspect is described only as a white man.
The suspect vehicle is described as a 2008 Silver Infiniti G35, California license plate 6GKX526.
According to TPD, the vehicle was reported stolen to the L.A. County Sheriff, Lancaster Station shortly after the attempted theft in Tehachapi.
According to Chief Kent Kroeger, the city of Tehachapi has experienced several catalytic converter thefts and requests that anyone with information regarding the suspect vehicle or the identity of the suspects contact Detective Machanic at 822-2222.
